Guardian Angels in Our Lives

Posted on July 3, 2023

Angels are known to be the messengers of God from heaven. Some of them are regarded as guardians and protectors from danger, and angels also battle with evil on our behalf. God is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. Why does He need angels to work for Him? Just like human beings, angels are created for God’s pleasure. And it is the nature of angels to be of service to their Creator.

There is no scientific evidences proving the existence of angels, may be because they are spiritual beings, something that is out of the bounds of science and logic. However, there have been numerous stories from the Bible and also in the contemporary context that claim the existence of these spiritual beings. A TV series entitled “Touched by an Angel” in 1990s became popular because of the stories cited about the occurrences of angels in the different lives of people.

In both Old and New Testament of the Bible, angels have been related as vital instruments of guidance and salvation, respectively. In Exodus, God told Moses to lead the people out of Egypt as His angels guide them on their way. A famous angel named Michael was assigned by God to guide the Israelites in the book of Daniel. There were also Psalms telling about the guarding of angels for those who seek God’s protection (Psalm 34:7; psalm 91:10-12). In the book of Daniel, his friends were allegedly saved by an angel when they were thrown in a blazing furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar, leaving them without any trace of burning.

In the New Testament, angel Gabriel was a famous messenger of Christ’s birth. He was first mentioned in the story of Elizabeth (Mary’s cousin) and Zechariah. Gabriel showed and introduced himself to Zechariah, and announced the conception of a long-awaited son whom he must name as John (Luke 1:11). The angel again appeared to Mary, and told him about his immaculate conception of the Savior (Luke 1:30). Another angel was mentioned in Luke 2:10, who told the shepherds about the birth of the Messiah. This was followed by the singing of praises of a great army of heavens angels. The holy family was again guided by the angel by appearing to Joseph in a dream and ordered them to escape to Egypt to get rid of King Herod’s wrath.

The symbolism of angels is highly exposed especially during Christmas time, due to the role of angels in the birth of Christ. Angel figurines are substitutes to the star of Bethlehem placed on top of Christmas trees. Catholics have been known to be very appreciative of religious images and articles, and so Angel Figurines are highly patronized. Angels are among the creatures that characterize heaven. Hence, many people numerous Angel Figurines and display them in their houses to have the feel of heaven in their own homes. Angel Figurine
