Wordle is a web-based game that challenges players to guess a five-letter word within six attempts. Each time you guess, the letters will be highlighted in various colors depending on how close to the correct answer they are. Originally created by Josh Wardle as a gift for his girlfriend, the game went viral and was acquired by the New York Times in 2022. Wordle is free to play, and it’s easy enough that even the most non-geeky of people can get stuck in.
As with any word puzzle, the key is to try out as many possibilities as possible before settling on one. Try starting with words that cover all the vowels, and avoid ones with repeating letters like Y (which often acts as a surrogate for E). A good Wordle start word should also include an uppercase letter and contain a full range of consonants.
For those who need a little extra help, we’ve put together a selection of hints to help you on your way. These Wordle tips are expertly crafted to help you keep your streak going, and they’ll give you clues about the type of word, the vowels it contains and even how many letters it has.
